Measuring a Year in Love:365 Days to Reflect on Connections
In this blog, we will discuss rethinking how we way judge our success in the past year as we reflect on connections.
Seasons of Love: Reflect on Connections
Finding Love in Unexpected Places
Love can feel elusive for many of us. We often expect it to show up in grand, obvious ways—through romantic gestures, lifelong friendships, or familial bonds. Yet, when you pause, love might appear in small, surprising ways: a warm smile from a stranger, a handwritten note from a friend, or the simple comfort of knowing someone cares.
As we move through different seasons of our lives, love takes many forms. This year, as you reflect on connections, consider how love has shown up for you in ways you may not have recognized at the time.
A Childhood Shaped by Love and Loss
My childhood was not one of traditional love stories. My mom worked two jobs as a single parent, doing her best to provide for us. She loved me, though not always in the way I needed. My brother, three years older, was both protector and tormentor—the complex role that siblings often play. My biological father? His love was reserved for the bottle in his hand.
Because of this, I grew up not knowing how to love—not in a deep, secure way. Love felt conditional, fleeting, and transactional. I spent years searching for it in all the wrong places, mistaking attention for affection, mistaking presence for connection.
Learning What Love Truly Means

Then, at 15, I met Lance.
Lance saw love before I did. He understood it as patience, as presence, as showing up even when it was hard. He held onto hope, waiting for me to understand what love truly meant.
Decades later, I finally did. His unwavering support taught me what love looks like when it’s steady, when it’s unconditional, when it asks for nothing in return. Today, I measure my life in seasons of love—not just in romantic partnerships, but in every relationship that has shaped me.
Reflect on the Connections of the Love Through the Year
As I’ve grown, I’ve learned that reflecting on each year through moments of love gives me a sense of meaning far greater than any personal achievement ever could. Love isn’t just a feeling; it’s an action. It’s found in the people who show up and connect with me, in the small kindnesses we extend to each other, and in the ways we choose to care, even when no one is watching.
This year, I feel immense gratitude.
I think of every cheerleader who supported Coach Link Up, believing in its vision and pushing me forward when I doubted myself.
I remember the friends who surprised me with kayak trips when my children moved overseas, filling the space of their absence with laughter and adventure.
I reflect on my children—who I have laughed with, cried over, and learned from in ways I never expected.
I honor my parents, both biological and bonus, who gave me space and support as I navigated a difficult transition.
I hold close the clients who have trusted me to join them on their joy journeys, allowing me to witness their transformations and growth.
Even the smallest moments matter—the kindness of a stranger, the unexpected note from a friend, the gentle understanding in someone’s eyes when I needed it most.
Love is everywhere, in every season, if we take the time to see it.
How Do You Measure a Year?
There are 525,600 minutes in a year. Most of us measure our time by achievements, milestones, or travels—the big moments that feel like progress. But what if we measured it in love instead?
What if, instead of asking, “What did I accomplish?” we asked, “How did I love?”
What if we stopped grading our years based on external success and instead focused on reflecting on connections—the people who made us feel safe, seen, and supported?
Questions to Reflect On:
- Who made you feel loved this year?
- How did you show love to others?
- Where did love surprise you?
- What relationships brought you the most joy?
- How can you cultivate deeper connections in the year ahead?
Reflect on Connections: The Power of Love
In every season of life, love is our greatest teacher. It shows us who we are, how we heal, and what truly matters. When we take the time to reflect on connections, we see that our lives are woven together by the people who have shown up for us—and the ways we have shown up for them.
If you’re struggling to feel loved, know this:
I see you.
Even if we’ve never met, I believe in your purpose. You matter. Your presence in this world is meaningful. You are loved.
If you find yourself questioning how to measure your year, let this be your answer: Measure it in love.
One season, one moment, one connection at a time.
Here’s to your season of love—may it be filled with warmth, reflection, and deep, meaningful connection. ❤️
